The Cost and Care for a Sanctuary Residency
Providing a loving home and top-notch care for our unadoptable cats comes with a hefty price tag. In fact, it all adds up to a whopping 1,200 Euros per cat each year.
The Essentials
The cost for a residency at Ellen's Cats Sanctuary amounts to about €650 per year—a stunning figure, especially considering we have 102 residents living with us where the average lifespan is about 8 years, and the total average is about €5.200 per cat.

We share this to help you understand the cost, dedication and sacrifice involved, and why we constantly nag you for donations, and sometimes hesitate to take in more cats. Every bit of support goes a long way in making our feline friends have the best life possible!
Vaccination
We try our best to keep up with their much-needed annual vaccination cocktail. This includes the FVRCP vaccine (a triple threat against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia), and the FeLV vaccine (shielding them from Feline Leukemia Virus). These mandatory shots provide our cats with a fighting chance.

Veterinary Expences
Life at the sanctuary comes with quite a few health hiccups. Many of our cats face issues like FIV, FeLV, gingivitis, stomatitis, liver and kidney troubles, coronavirus and calicivirus. These require plenty of TLC, medication, and quite often, a trip to the hospital.

Wet & Dry Food
Our cats have access to quality dry hypoallergenic food throughout the day, complemented by various wet foods for breakfast and dinner with some having meals tailored to their needs.

360 cans of wet food (400 g each) from Lidl.
720 pouches of Felix wet food (80 g each).
190 cans of Purina Fondant wet food (85 g each).

Spay & Neuter
At Ellen's Cats Sanctuary, we make sure every cat is spayed or neutered to prevent the spread of diseases, and surprise litters and keep the peace among our furry residents.
The cost per cat is around €50* for gents and €100* for ladies
*Depending on the clinic performing the surgery.
Flea & Worm Treatment
To keep our cats from turning into flea circuses or worm havens, we treat them with Advocate, an all-in-one, Spot-On treatment that tackles fleas, roundworms, lungworms, heartworms, and ear mites. Advocate is only available with a prescription from veterinarians.
The cost per cat is €8 /month.
